Pine Hill Festival Talent Show

Saturday, April 5

9 a.m., stage at Blaylock Park

Contestants up to age 15 are invited to come showcase their talents! Whether you’re great at reading a poem, dancing, singing, twirling a baton, playing an instrument, performing magic tricks — whatever your talent, we want to see it! The fee to enter is $20. Competition limited to solo, duo or trio acts. Cash prizes for winners in each age category. Stone County Idol Competition

Friday, April 4 (Preliminary Auditions)

Saturday, April 5 (Final Winner Selected)

Stone County is looking for a singing superstar! This competition, for ages 16-28, will be conducted similar to American Idol, with three judges who will critique contestants’ performances, and with the audience choosing the ultimate winner. Contestants under age 18 must have parent’s or guardian’s permission to participate. Winner will receive cash and 1 hour in a Stone County recording studio with a master mix CD. Selections will be based on talent in areas of music styles including but not limited to, rock, pop, hip/hop, R&B, alternative, inspirational, and country. Entry fee of $25 and application are due in the SCEDP offices by 5 p.m., Friday, March 28.

Pine Hill Run/Walk

5K, 10K Run — 1-Mile Run/Walk

Saturday, April 5

8 a.m., 5K and 10K Run

9 a.m. 1-Mile Run/Walk

The whole family is invited to take part in this fun walk/run, to begin at Blaylock Park in Wiggins.  Entry fee is $10 for those who pre-register, and $15 the day of the event. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, and all finishers age 12 and younger will get a ribbon. Overall male and female winners in each age group will win grand prize medals. Medals will also be presented to the first– and second-place winners in each age group.

Classic Car Show

Saturday, April 5

Get a close-up look at the classic cars of decades past, plus see late-model cars with the coolest custom effects! Cars will be on display at Blaylock Park.

Thrill of the Hill Soap Box Derby

Teams are challenged to design and build a fast Soap Box racer — while keeping to the theme Thrill of the Hill. There will be prizes for teams who raise the most money through sponsorships, the team that is the people’s choice favorite, and the teams with the fastest racers in each class. The race begins at 10 a.m., with sign-in and practice runs starting at 8:30 a.m. and runs through downtown Wiggins. Registration is $25 per team, due by March 28, 2008. (Late registration is $40.) Applicants may mail or deliver forms to the Bank of Wiggins, South Branch, c/o Ronald J. Stanley, P.O. Box 67, Wiggins, MS, 39577. Make checks payable to Soap Box Derby. Arts

Renowned basket weaver and Mississippian Bessie Johnson will demonstrate the art of basket-weaving at the Arts Pavilion located by the Stone County Library.  Nancilee Bodine, of Bodine Pottery, will have the pottery wheel on site for special demonstrations.  The public is encouraged to paint a tile to commemorate the festival.    

 

Live Music

The Pine Hill Festival stage will entertain with two top-notch acts: T-Bone Pruitt and Kustom Kountry. T-Bone, a 59-year-plus veteran of the blues, is known for his rich, smooth vocals and his mastery of the blues guitar.

Kustom Kountry is a famous hometown band that has a big sound.  They will be playing all the latest hits so bring your dancing shoes!!
